7: Stuff

As you know (maybe) I recently read 7.  I highly recommend it!  Since going through the process of adoption, God really opened our eyes to a lot of things.  One of them being what/where we spend our money.  Even though we have been more conscious of this, there is still work to be done on this area of our lives.  We still have too much stuff.  In, 7, Jen Hatmaker brings up the point that just getting rid of stuff may not be the best option.  She and her friends gathered their purged items and set up a storehouse where needs could be met.  Example: a family's house burns down and they need new bedding.  I am by no means a pack rat.  I can get rid of stuff with the best of them!  But, I have used Goodwill as a way to unload myself of all that stuff.  Not that Goodwill isn't good or that I will never donate there again, but I would like to be more intentional with my giving.  So, over spring break I took a morning to do this.

Look at all that STUFF that was in our closet!  Ridiculous!

I went through every item.  If I hadn't worn it in the last season, it was out.  My husband who wears a tie maybe 4 times a year had 12 of them!  I cut that number in half (and not more because my dear husband does tend to hang onto things a little too long).  Will I miss any of the things that I got rid of?  Probably not.  And if I do, so what?  I still have more than enough.

This, plus more, is all going to my friend, Laurie's garage sale to raise funds to bring home their boy from Haiti.  Now that is the kind of thing I LOVE to support!!

And I have a nicely organized closet which is perfect for me with more than enough clothes and shoes for me to still wear!

Have you read 7 yet? (I'm going to keep bugging you until you do!)  Have you gotten rid of anything lately?
