Wear Their Story, Share Their Story

While adopting Baby A in 2008, my eyes were opened wide to how the majority of the world lives.  As you know, it is a stark difference to our lives in America.  For example, take a look at David's story.  David is one of the artisans employed by African Style, the group who makes Noonday Collections colorful paper bead jewelry.

find more artisan stories on the Noonday blog

Can you imagine scoring the highest on a test in the whole country and then be unable to attend college and even have a place to live?  And while we cannot relate to much of David's story, we know what brokenness is.  We can relate to that.

I heard a quote once that said, "Once you know someone's story, you can begin to understand them."  We all have stories.  I love how God allows our stories to be woven into other's.  This is exactly what Noonday is about.  Through our purchases, and even awareness of these artisans, we have the opportunity to live out Isaiah 58:10.

“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,

with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
10
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday."

Through our partnership with Noonday Collection, we are able to give people like David hope for a future in this life and tell them they most definitely have a future through knowing our Heavenly Father.

This is ONE of the reasons I love Noonday Collection.

If you haven't seen our pieces in person already, you really need to.  The beauty and craftsmanship is outstanding.  And knowing someone like David made it makes them even more special.  There are ambassadors all over the country and I would be happy to get you in touch with one in your area.

I'm participating in an ambassador blog train highlighting why we love Noonday.  Each of us is holding a giveaway, too.  If you haven't jumped on the train yet, you should!  Yesterday, Emily posted and is giving away one of our beautiful Ethiopian pieces.  Melonie is up tomorrow.

Today, I would love to highlight one of my best sellers-the beaded statement bracelet made in Uganda by David and his friends.

I would love for you to enter to win this bracelet*!  All you need to do is visit my website and leave a comment telling me what are the top two Noonday items on your list.  I will announce a winner next Wednesday.  She will be able to wear it proudly and tell others about David story.

*If you already own this bracelet, I will be happy to work with you on getting another piece.  :)  So comment with your list anyway!

Noonday Collection Launch

"You've stepped up your cuteness now that you wear Noonday everyday." -Avery Mixon

So, according to my teenage daughter, Noonday has given me a push I needed to look "cute".

I'm glad!  You all, I just LOVE my Noonday pieces and I really do wear something everyday.  They are so well made, beautiful, and versatile!  Above all that, I wear the pieces with confidence knowing where they came from and that my wearing them not only helps provide a living wage for the artisans, but each piece allows me to be an advocate for the oppressed and helps me open eyes to those who do not know.

I was so happy to open my home recently and show off Noonday to some sweet friends who came in support of this new venture for me!

The Van Nus girls were the first to stop by. I just love them! They have hearts of gold and I know they are now big Noonday fans, too!

 photo 20130506-DSC_1332_zps48c808ba.jpg

I went with a Cinco de Mayo theme.  Don't you love the Shalom necklace against that pop of orange in the paper flower?  Any Auburn fans out there?

 photo 20130506-DSC_1330_zpsc94c32a5.jpg

Vicki bought this bracelet and is so happy. I love it, too!

   photo 20130506-DSC_1328_zps88b3eec4.jpg

The La Jolla has been a best seller this spring. It definitely gets noticed when I wear it. Such a beautiful
statement piece.  And the small cow horn earrings go with everything.

   photo 044_zps1d51632c.jpg

Miss Fashion Police is wearing the hat that sold me on Noonday. I cannot wait to wear it in two weeks when my toes are in the sand! She also has on the very popular Wildflower belt. You know me, I love
pairing it with jeans and a tee.  The bone carved leaf earrings are beautifully delicate.  I love them!

   photo 20130506-DSC_1334_zpsc4ba6c7a.jpg

Miss Ashtyn looks oh so cute in the perfect sun hat, too! She and her mom got these earrings to share.

This was a great first show and I can't wait to have some more this summer!  Thank you friends for being so supportive of me and for becoming Noonday fans, too!  Every little purchase helps bring awareness and help to those who need it most!

I need to get some June shows on the calendar.  Would you be interested in hosting a show?  It is as easy as opening your home to your girlfriends for a few hours!  Take a look around and let me hear from you!

Graduation

I drove by the Stadium this morning as they were setting out chairs for tonight's graduation and I got a little teary.  In two years, I will be the parent of a graduate!  How can that be?!

Lizzy got all spruced up for commencement and I had to snap a few pictures of her last day of 10th grade.

The girl is gorgeous-inside and out. So blessed!

   photo 20130517-DSC_1351_zps86906d8b.jpg

And look at this handsome dude! It is not unusual these days to see a baseball in his hands!

 photo 20130517-DSC_1352_zps02f5d73b.jpg

Well, I had the big camera out, so I might as well snap a few!

   photo 20130517-DSC_1353_zps87aab8cf.jpg

Apparently he didn't think so. Oh, the hair! Does is not make him look so old? Yes, I miss the curls.

   photo 20130517-DSC_1354_zpsc955dea8.jpg

My clone and I showing off our Noonday! Liz has on the Stacked Arrows necklace and I'm wearing it out as usual with the Olivia necklace, the Minted necklace, the Escalera bracelet in aqua, and the Olivia bracelet. There is no such thing as too much Noonday!

   photo 20130517-DSC_1356_zpsc78a5ef0.jpg

Enjoy your last two years, Lizzy! (Before you know it you will be writing about your daughter having 2 years of HS left!)

In Front of the Camera

A few weeks ago I had the fun opportunity to have lunch with some of the Noonday Ambassadors in Georgia and South Carolina.  We got together because Noonday's founder, Jessica Honegger, was in town. I was already sold on what a solid company Noonday is and meeting this ladies just deepened my feeling.

 photo 476458_10200200874479454_728549376_o_zps6be38e83.jpg photo 478337_10200200889839838_1974629519_o_zpse37e3562.jpg

Now, you all know what an introvert I am, but there was not one of these ladies that was not easy to talk to. Great conversation and GREAT food!  We met at JCT Kitchen on the west side of ATL.  I highly recommend the brisket sandwich!

I was so happy to meet Paige Knudsen, too.  I've followed her blog for awhile and it was through some of her posts about Noonday that finally gave me the push I needed to jump in with the company.  I hope I get to hang out with her again sometime!  Not only is Paige such a sweet person and great writer, she is a talented photographer!  Since I am typically behind the camera and not in front of it, I asked Paige if she would kindly take a photo or two for my Noonday site.  She took more than a couple and I was so honored that she took that time with me and edited a few as well!

Jessica and Paige.  And this photo sold me on wanting a white picnic table for our back porch. :)  So, without further ado, the photos.

 photo sara1_zps3d21db6f.jpg

It's amazing what photo editing can do, eh?

Here is a wonderful visual of why Noonday's pieces are so versatile.  I have on my standard jeans and a cheap tshirt.  Pair those with the Festival necklace, funky paper bead bracelet, brightly wound bracelet, small cow horn earrings, and patchwork clutch  and I look totally put together!

Thank you, Paige, for spoiling me with your photographs!

Why, Hello There Friday!

It seems as if Fridays are the only days I get a post completed anymore!  Tis the season!  Life has been full and good!  Spring is finally here which means outside time for all of us.  I've started Couch to 5k again and have made it to jogging half the time.  Whew!  I don't know how you regular runners do it.  I do not enjoy running.  But, I want to exercise 1. because I need it and I'm not no spring chicken anymore :) and 2. because I secretly dream of having a body like this chick.  I'm sure she does way more than run a 5k.  Plus, she's probably like 5'2", but whatevs.  It's motivating me right now.

 photo 006_zpsf56928de.jpg photo 010_zpsd8adcca5.jpg

Spring also means I get to spend a few nights a week at the ball field.  Coco is turning into quite the little player.  I am confessing that I enjoy watching him play baseball more than watching volleyball.  Gasp!  I know, I know.  It's craziness!  Plus, Coco's coach is a hottie.  I have a weakness for seeing him on the field and always have!  He is SUCH a good coach to those boys.  They are so lucky to have someone as knowledgeable as him and one that realizes they are 7 and not 17!

 photo 047_zpsbbe4e7e7.jpg photo 054_zps62ac6be1.jpg photo 055_zpsfa74319f.jpg

My little social butterfly spent about 10 min. with me at last night's game before charming a teenage girl and a girl from his class into playing.  Plus, he has figured out that baseball games mean lots of junk food.  Last night he had: a red Powerade, a bag of cookies, a laffy taffy stick, a bag of Cheezits, and a blue Gatorade.  I only got him the first two things and they others were given to him!  And we were only there an hour!

You may have noticed that someone's curls are not hanging out of his cap any more.  :(  He wanted, and got, a big boy cut.  He looks so old!
 photo 033_zpsdf566d7b.jpg

One reason my nights have been so full is that I've been working on my new "job" as an Ambassador for Noonday.  It is hard to view it as a job because it is so fun!  I love learning about the company, the people we are impacting, making displays for the gorgeous jewelry, and making steps to grow my business!  I've been promoting a lot using social media.  You can follow me on Instagram at @mixmama. :)  By the way, the May and June hostess incentives are fab.u.lous!  I would love to share more with you about Noonday and help get Noonday into your hands!  Check out my site at saramixon.noondaycollection.com to learn more!

Lastly, we have some kitchen projects happenin' up in here. LOVE finished projects, but I'm very impatient and can't stand messes. Lord help me. photo 022_zpsafaa2f94.jpg photo 024_zps7f24427d.jpg photo 026_zpscd11627e.jpg photo 028_zpsf57059a0.jpg
